Speaking of things Eastern European Mark, you should investigate the Kronzila amp. Truly amazing and truly bizarre. Should be sold with a fire extinguisher I feel. http://www.enjoythemusic.com/superioraudio/equipment/0506/kr_audio_dx_monoblock.htm |

Absolutely nothing to do with me, Mark. NAT is made about 80 miles south of Belgrade, in a city called Kragujevac. Used to be the home town of locally manufactured Zastava cars, usinf FIAT licences, but is now completely owned by FIAT and renamed to FIAT Serbia Ltd.
They have been around for over 10 years, and while I do know them, and see them every now and then, we are not close friends. They specialize in tube stuff and seem bent on using NOS parts. I have heard some of their products and I must say they are very good indeed, although not my cup of tea, I go for coffee.
But if you want outstanding sound, and skipping myself, do take a look at http://www.karanacoustics.com and http://www.audialonline.com . This last guy specializes in DACs and he's DAMN good. But expensive. For valve and solid state gear, also take a look at http://www.korato.com . There are a couple of other companies, but they mostly work on order only, and are mostly in the Mid Fi sector. |

| 545Euros for this dvv? I wouldn't say that's expensive, there really is some good hifi gear out there we rarely get to know of, I'm glad for a forum like this where we get people from all around the world as we can get to discover some truly great other products that otherwise we never would know about instead it would be what linn or what Naim shall I buy, there is sooo much more to discover. |

I agree, even though I like the flat earth style and sound there is more to good listening than just those two brands, unfortunately it seems the British public have had it drilled in to them that not much else rarely exists outside these shores and those two brands, saying that I do think we are witnessing changes as people look further afield. |

That's a new model, Adam, I was referring to the other one, which used to cost quite a lot. Frankly, I don't follow that site, so I'm out of touch with his prices.
I would imagine the new model has been launched because the old one is so expensive, over 3K euros, if memory serves. Not many buyers in that range, but at 550 euros, well, that's another story altogether.
As for Britain, well, Britain is an island, and its population does have some of the closed up islander mentality, also present elsewhere under similar circumstances. Not to mention the fact that somebody stands to make more money that way than they otherwise would, so they gladly pay for this to be promoted at the way to go. Also present elsewhere as well. |

| True dvv, 3,000 is very pricey, not much of a market for DACs at the kind of price point, especially as their really are some goon news ones hitting the scene. |

| You know, Adam, Pedja is a little neurotic in my view, and I've clashed blades with him several times, but it is a fact that he doesn't simply know and understand DACs, that guy breathes and lives DACs. Knows more about them than anybody else I can think of.
So, I wouldn't be surprised if his new model was VERY MUCH worth investigating. I would, if I hadn't bought that digital filterless model from Australia, and I am extremely happy with it. When you factor in the price, I could hardly be any happier. However, given Pedja's expertise in DAC matters, I might just investigate the new little boy. |

| For an unknown name to sell such a high priced item I can't imagine him selling much, even though he may well indeed have great knowledge, people with that kind of money burning a hole in their pocket are more likely to buy a well known name, it has many advantages, especially when it comes to moving it on. |

Completely agreed.
Which is most probably the key reason why the smaller and much cheaper model appeared. If it is to survive, a company must sell, and at the price point of the larger model, that's not going to be easy. |
