| Mine was a Simon York S9(I think it was), a lovely deck, but was it expensive. |

Hard to say as both were running into very different systems so it's hard to separate the source from the amp/speaker/ room interface. The two that have impressed me the most were the Australian Continuum 'Criterion' http://www.continuumaudiolabs.com/reviews.html and the US Rockport 'Sirius' http://www.rockporttechnologies.com/ The 'Criterion' was running into a Boulder phono pre-amp, Boulder pre and power amps and large Ambience ribbon/dynamic hybrid speakers. http://www.ambiencespeakers.com.au/ Very musical with an ability to startle with huge dynamic shifts, micro dynamic shading and fantastic depth . Can't remember the cartridge model number but it was from Clearaudio. The Rockport 'Sirius' ran into all Halcro electronics then Wilson Audio's biggest speakers. The cartridge was a Garrot Bros modified Sumiko 'Rosewood' . Very lush sounding system again with huge dynamic range but a certain un-natural 'high-fi' overtone that I always hear with Wilson Audio's big-uns. However, the best analogue sound I've ever heard came from a Revox B700(?) reel to reel tape deck running master tapes. But hey, I'm happy with my own turntable, a VPI 'HRX'. http://www.vpiindustries.com/

I may be on my own here but I thought it one of the ugliest turntables I've ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on. The arm, despite the staggering amount of original engineering ( or because of?) that's gone into it looks cheap and nasty. So, even if I wanted to spend silly money on a turntable I'd stay away from this chrome plated mess.

| Agreed but the methods it uses are on paper just about all you can bung on one machine ! Not allways a recipe for success mind but I'd still like to hear one. Even if it does look like one of them old washing machines. |

Don't care. If I had to stare at that thing it would put my off enjoying my music. You know how fussy us old fags are about the way things look. I also wont give a place in my listening room to any speaker that has those hiddious yellow drivers a la B & W either, no matter how wonderful they sound. Even my Manley 'Steelhead' phono pre-amp is hidden out of sight because I reckon its a nasty looking piece of Flash Gordon nostalgia.

| I was in a demo of a Nottingham Analogue - Hyperspace t/table a couple of years ago and, still, I haven't heard anything *better*.
It must have been a very synergistic system but, one word that would describe the sound was.. Magic!
Perhaps... one day!.. |
