| Well, I'd suggest one of the Clearaudio phono stages. Haven't heard them but hope to be trying the basic shortly. If they're as good as the turntables they should be something special, which is what some of the reviews say.
Of the cheapies the Rega Fono and Fono mini are better than the others, at least the NAD and the Pro-ject anyway. |

| I would start by having a listen to the Rega phono stages (mm or MC), then something from Graham Slee, then the west two or Tricords range. It depends if you want MM or MC matching, SS or valve. |

| The Creek OBH series are good, but I'd don't know how they'd go with a project. I had a OBH8SE with my Rega and it was like strawberries and cream, I lovely phono stage. |

| I'd just like to take back my endorsement of the Rega Fono preamps. Mine just died one month outside warranty, exactly as my Planet CD player did. Avoid Rega and go with the other products mentioned in this thread. |

| So yes or no to Rega? I feel it's more of a sideways move. I've never heard of Sudgen. Cearaudio sunds like it might be a good one to investigate. A friend suggested Lehman Black cube, but it sounds more like a bank |

| read up on sugden, and if the reaction he got from rega on the phono stage problem is tyoical rega (they swapped it, and it is typical) then yes to Rega. where are you almost, I have a Rega MC phono stage you are welcome to listen to (North Lincolnshire). I much prefer it to the Slee stuff I had before, but that could be system matching. |

| Yes, sorry, missed this thread. They have agreed to swop the Rega so I'll re-endorse it. They are good products and a cut above the other budget phono preamps. |

| I have to recommend Musical Fidelity. I'm usiing the V-LPS which cost the princely sum of £90. I'd happily put it up against anything up to £500. It's not pretty but it does a fantastic job. I previously had the X-LP ond it kicked the ass off much more costly amps too! |

| The Dynavector P-75 is very good, but I'm not sure how it would go with a Project, it sounds sweet with a Rega deck. |

Think I've said this before. (in that other place that gave birth to this one, Hi-Fi Choice I think it was called) Yes, the Musical Fidelity V-LPS is a great bargain but by far the best phono stage they put out was the three box LP 2. Out of production and hardly ever appearing on eBay as people hang onto them but if one can be found WOOO HOOOO!. Alternately I suggest either the Sugden phono stage or the best you can afford from Graham Slee's line up. Ultimately though I prefer valve phono pre-amps but decent ones usually cost silly money unless you are willing to take the risk of buying over the web and go for one of these :- http://www.ys-audio.com/new_page_9.htm |
