That's an after market plinth, the original was fluted.

It appears to be a Russ Collinson plinth which comes bundled as part of the Inspire Hi fi upgrade package for the LP12 Why do I hink that- well because it looks like this example has an acrylic arm-board. Plinth, whoever made it - lovely graining.
