Tonearms with staight finger lifts. Whats all that about? I use my finger lift on every LP. As I have a spring suspended deck I find using the lifting mechanism can make the stylus hop around horribly at the end of the record so...It's finger under the headshell lifting arm, up and onto the rest. Then up with the cueing arm lever to let it lower nice and gentle on to the lead in grooves on the next one. Just gives me time to get to my chair and snuggle down...Luverly . Why then are companys bringing out arms in this day and age with straight arm lifts, sticking out horizontally so even me with my skinny digits can't get under them? I would steer away from any arm with a straight lift...thank god for rega !!!

oh my VPI is like that, gives me the shivers lining her up, give me a Rega or Jelco, but the Memorial 9 is a nice arm though.

you must have fingers like tooth picks JS. No way can I get my fingers underneath a straight finger lift. It just seems a silly thing which can easily be made right but seems to be ignored ...maybe some people make things but never use them in real life ?

Does no one else think it's daft ? | AH HA ! We might be getting to the bottom of this difference of opinion. I don't use a finger lift by just putting a finger under mine. I grasp the lift on the JMW 'Memorial' 12.5 between my thumb and forefinger. Hope that explains my dexterity. |

Mind you some of the finger lift can be small, I ve got small fingers too and I can just about get my finger under some of them, so those who may have sausage fingers are really going to struggle, my main problem with the VPI I find is that it wobbles due to the pivot design, so you need a steady hand to make sure you get it lined up correctly.

Never ever not never would I dream of grabbing my lever in my fingers ( shut up bach )..recipe for disaster in my book on a suspended ( or non suspended for that matter )deck. Under and lift is the way...Maybe thats the problem? Manufacturers don't think of the potential damage to records and styli by trying to use the old pincer method ! Like I suggested, maybe they never use the things they design ???? Would'nt be the first time !
