| My system is ripe for one FRANK... I've wanted one for about 20 years . Now I'm happy with my gear I've decided instead of chasing upgrades that probably won't make a peneth of an improvement it's my chance to buy a thing of beauty just for the sake of it.. The one thing holding me back was paying for cats masters degree year ...now done. ( lucky timing,. I'm paying for her without the poor sod ending up owing the government thousands ....if she was starting out now I wouldn't have a chance mate ! I'm not surprised the kids are demo'ing. The Alphasons been my ' lusted after ' piece of hi fi sculpture for so long . And now I'm acting like my usual immature self , and trying to aquire one ASAP ! Some people like looking at valves......I want a real piece of engineering beauty . And the titanium S is IT ! lol .....
Hope your saturday jobs still holding up....? Iv

Not with the new B@W CM7's mate.............plenty of bass and an all round sweet sound. The guy who swappedbrought the arm and we had a lovely chat turns out he's called Richard Kelly. Any oldsters who read hi fi world at the begining may remember a column called Kelly's Korner ?? Well this guy 's a publican now in Stokesley in north Yorkshire. We had a great talk about journo,s and the early flat earth days . I'm also on a free ale night if I get up that way which can't be bad eh ?? Trouble is I never got the pub name..DOH !! I didn't ask how he came to have a boxed Alphason........But after some of the stories he told me and the wife about the early days I can make my own conclusions LOL Anyway it sounds great.....I swear I've just heard RADIOHEADS bassist run down the frets and I could see the sound move 2 feet from left to right in front of me. I never appreciated the difference a good arm could make but it seems I got a bit of a bargain this time. Forum Power Arthur , cheers cobba !!

Well! ... Mr Kelly's a publican now! Yes, I was an avid reader of his scribes at ancient times! Wish him well from one of his readers Mark, next time you see him. What arm have you been using before this one then lad and, and did the Alphason fit OK without drama? I guess a bit of adjustment with the mounting plate did the trick?

Easier than falling off a log Arthur ! Credit card in hand I rang michell engineering. They looked up the measurements and told me they would make me one. It's Linn effective length so the difference between that and my ( to answer your other question ) 'audio origami' re wired , new under slungweighted, and foam filled , REGA RB 300 arm was , i think about 7mm. They machined me ome from a solid aluminium billet and got it to me two days later by recorded post .........only £ 41 !! It all went together with no problems . That price for a piece of engineering is bloody good value in 2010 dont you think Arthur. I couldn't make one myself for someone for less than a hundred quid ! Far better quality than an internet e bay copy I saw on a friends orbe .

Got to give it to them Mark! Their customer service is second to none, no wonder they've got such a dedicated following! ..and so, on early impression, does it sound very different from the Origami arm and, if yes, in what areas? Is it just different ( as in a sideway move), or it's clearly better sounding in all areas? I am just curious because, when I replaced the old Linn LVX arm with the RB 300 (on my old Linn Sondek), the difference was dramatic.

Yeah the first thing that hit in the first minute was how much livelier the Alphason is than the Rega. Detail up , imaging and soundstage through the roof Arthur. Not taking anything from the rega it's awesome for the price but this baby is it for me now. I got this for life. I can't really think of anything the rega does bettter than the Alphason so I suppose that says enough. I'm not good at review lingo but you could say it's got more ZING , while still retaining all the bass and if anything tightened that up with note stopping and starting much more defined. To be honest I played Wagners ' the ring' and I starting hearing more instruments in places where before on the soundstage there was nothing. My old arm allready gave me more detail than any digital I've heard so this one should be heard by anyone slagging off analogue ! They might have a shock ! By the way I heard your deck a few weeks ago Arthur...only in a demo room but it's pretty damn good ain't it ? Bet it's got you playing records more than the Linn eh ? Still don't get how ya line the cart up with one screw and no washers though ?? Or is there a washer I didn't see so it doesn't scew round when you tighten it ? It's good to talk vinyl again matey.

I heard a 100 HRS a while back, fabulous arm, but given that it cost £300 new it should be. 300 then must be 1200 now. I would certainly have swaped a modded RB300 for one, not sure I would swap the RB1000 I have now though.
